Saraswatichandra - Sanjay Leela Bhansali's foray into Indian Television

Image
So, its another fine weekend and I am stuck - at picking up a subject for my post. While half the blogosphere is picking hot topics like Sanjay Dutt & Indian Legal System, I finally close in on a flicker . Saraswatichandra - a review. The big budget, heavily touted Sanjay Leela Bhansali's revered step onto Indian Soap Opera. To witness the miracle of how this larger-than-life filmmaker fits into our unflattering idiot boxes, most women must have completed their chores beforehand. I too, with a little curiosity, & out of my liking for SLJ's films, took time out. But the opening was a cliched debut filled with cocktailed moments drawn from Devdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam? And that too without Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan or Ajay Devgn!                 The sets rolled out like an expensive brocade woven in a plush Kashmiri carpet on which the characters – who shone like they were...

Talaash: The Answer Lies Within

Image
Another review in a short span of time. This time its the much awaited movie Talaash . Finally, you get to see an A-listed actor doing no over-the-top scenes like those in pot-boiler flicks that pull the multitudes like the scent of cheese pulls a mouse. It's refreshing to see Aamir Khan do experiments. As realistic as it can be, Reema Kaagti gives it the human touch. Aamir's acting prowess comes out in scenes where he looks troubled, confused and grief-stricken. But unfortunately, Reema Kaagti bravely ventures into shores which bollywood had left quite early, taking the audience to be adults.                          Though I would not term this as his best performance, Aamir lends an emotional touch to his character, seen revolving between a murder mystery and his personal loss, which many would've otherwise ticked off as an 'okay' performance. The best acting comes from Nawazuddin Si...

Jab Tak Hai Jaan - a fitting Tribute to Yash Chopra

Image
From a long time I have been wanting to write little reviews of movies I watch. I guess this should be the first one in the line, for the movie, "Jab Tak Hai Jaan".   B efore going further, lets hear that 'trusting' voice (from a familiar movie) whose empathy has led to a million & more fans scurrying over his releases. It's my all time favorite!                          Again, let me pen a few things about the enigmatic Yash Chopra ji. Chopra’s grand theme was love and it was seldom a simple affair. In his films, it was usually THE greatest treasure that could be attained only after navigating through a maze of complications and enigmatic snuffles. Complex love triangles (Daag and Chandni), convoluted love quadrangle (Silsila), love defying category (Kabhi Kabhie), age-gap amour (Lamhe), young romance & friendship (Dil To Paagal Hai), love as sacr...
