Talaash: The Answer Lies Within

Another review in a short span of time. This time its the much awaited movie Talaash. Finally, you get to see an A-listed actor doing no over-the-top scenes like those in pot-boiler flicks that pull the multitudes like the scent of cheese pulls a mouse. It's refreshing to see Aamir Khan do experiments. As realistic as it can be, Reema Kaagti gives it the human touch. Aamir's acting prowess comes out in scenes where he looks troubled, confused and grief-stricken. But unfortunately, Reema Kaagti bravely ventures into shores which bollywood had left quite early, taking the audience to be adults.

Though I would not term this as his best performance, Aamir lends an emotional touch to his character, seen revolving between a murder mystery and his personal loss, which many would've otherwise ticked off as an 'okay' performance. The best acting comes from Nawazuddin Siddique, of Gangs of Wasseypur fame. He sets it straight with exceptionally touching and natural acting. One can feel the sense of freedom that the aged prostitute feels as she realizes that she has been set free. Rani Mukherjee does her character with extreme ease, and Kareena Kapoor looks a bit over in some parts. Mumbai, also plays it's undeniable part in the film. Long years have passed wherein we see an un-glamourous city with one of its dark side up. The only thing I didn't like was a chase seen where 'Temur' used a wheel-cart to run away from the goons. This so reminded me of Shaan.

The songs are composed pretty well, with Jiya Lage Na and Jee Le Zara being my top favorite. Overall, this movie seems to be a more-than-once watch for me. However, I would still rate Kahaani a better movie in the suspense thriller genre. God save those people who had expected a lot of histrionics in this superb movie.
