Swiss Woman Gang-raped, Delhi Girl Gang-raped, in India only Sheila & Munni live Happily

Close on the heels of the harrowing gang-rape case in Delhi, two other such events have cropped up in the news. A Swiss woman, on a cycling trip in Central India, was gang-raped by 6 men. Although her condition is not fatal and she's recovering now, this raised a lot eyebrows across the world, and nations are now thinking on issuing warnings to travelers on increasing sexual assaults against women in India. Just recently in Agra, a UK tourist jumped from her hotel to escape a sexual assault. The tragic tales of ‘Indian Rape’ also happens in areas occupied by the Indian forces, especially Kashmir where thousands of women have been raped and murdered. But with a mindset of hoping against hope, I thought that after the 16 Dec news spread like a wildfire, the lid was blown off the systematic sexism in Indian culture, and rape began receiving the serious attention it deserves. But that was to fizzle out, and seemingly nothing changed here.

Police said,"these people were in the wrong place at the wrong time". There was one another rape case of a middle-aged woman in India where the policeman said, "Why should he(accused) rape the mother of three?" I mean, What? These statements clearly show the lack of recognition women get in India. We say 'Atithi Devo Bhava' and then we screw our god. A gender that does not demand, but deserves the highest gratitude and respect, is unfortunately being served the opposite in the modern world today.

As Naomi Wolf noted in her book The Beauty Myth, “Beauty provokes harassment, the law says, but it looks through the men’s eyes when deciding what provokes it.” - A deep view is needed to understand this statement. With sadness, I am reminded of one of my friends who was once trying to cajole a young foreigner into visiting his residence(you know for what purpose.) I severely chided him that day but he hasn't changed since, and still thinks that a woman's work is to stay shut inside the house, wear full clothes and do all the duties properly - everyday in and out.

It is difficult to explain a man about a sister, who himself is not a brother of one. Its impossible to explain the emphatic embrace of a father & daughter, to one who isn’t a father. It’s very challenging for a man to know what respect and care means for a wife, who is unable to find a life-partner. This is the unmistakable irony of Indian society today, which treats women as the worst liability on the face of this earth, as India has failed to harbor civil decorum in its masses. A society that believes having two girl-child is a wrath earned due to some wrong doing in the past life. Where we go to movies for seeing an 'Item Number' only, where shinning celebrities are competing with each other to shed more clothes. Hyper-Glamor and an opposite dark-skinned reality on Indian demographics doesn’t go down too well with men, who are gradually morphed in to hunters, perverts, addicts and rapists finally, if things don’t end up in a murder.

This genocidal catastrophe against a human race invites serious action against elements that have torn apart the Indian social fabric, turning sex-crimes into a plague. Or at least for the sake of our prestige & economy, lets change our perception and stop provoking the demon in our men through Item Numbers, women described as mere objects and other such beliefs. We garner more than $120 million annually from tourism and the sensationalizing of these crimes against women in India is hurting the sector and India's global image big time.

  1. that is something to be felt, no one can pour those thought in someone no matter how hard you try, well effort is appreciated though. Nice writeup.

PS: That "middle age woman's rape" you mentioned , little correction there , it was the officer who was investigating the case said "why would anyone rape a mother of 4 " that statement was far more unfortunate than the accused saying this.

  3. RIP to the girl. I really don't know what's happening to India right now why they are the rape capital in the world.
The delhi gang rape case is so brutal that it shocked the world and grieving over the girl. Those suspects should be hanged for good. They don't deserve to live anymore after what they've done to the girl. Maybe because of drugs and some other stuffs that influence them to do the deed but no one's exempted to the law even if they have a million reasons they will still be punished.I just hope this will stop sooner than later. personal injury attorney medford oregon
