Delhi Girl Gang-Raped in a Moving Bus. Views.

No Disclaimer. I want people to feel their guilt on reading this.

What’s horrifying is how a bunch of people could do something like this, that seems like a scene out of a rape-fetish-horror movie, in public in the capital city! And those 4-5 men were obsessed about raping her at the same time! It’s very very hard to be optimistic that anything will change in the near future. It’s not about individuals or a few power-wielding men. It’s about a mass cultural mindset that’s the issue here.

Do you think our society really sees rapists as serious criminals? Many of us seem to see rape as something that happens when a rapist is not able to control himself. It seems we have special standards for judging sexual criminals, and rapists know this.

One more reality check for a country that claims to ‘respect’ and worship women. Yes, let’s round up the Shouters, 'Indian' citizens like us, who criticize a bad deed, bad politician, or the people who gang raped a woman and beat up her friend for daring to try and stop them roam with impunity.

Outrage follows on yesterday, today, and perhaps on tomorrow. Perhaps the day after that, if we’re lucky. Then we’ll all go back to our lives, the "aunties" will go back to telling women to stay home after dark, the moral police will go back to blaming women for being stupid enough to get raped, and "lawyered up" rapists will simply claim that they were provoked, and they will be let out scot-free.

Even as the middle-class TV-watchers shower their sympathies to the poor young woman for half an hour before routing back to the tension in the daily soaps like Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai or Diya Aur Baati Hum or Bade Acche Lagte Hain or a hundred more.. The ladies will do justice in reading the news headlines and stuttering a "Ohh! Shit!!" and then routing back to Bigg Boss 6 or MTV. The boys, as always, never watch any news, they would be roaming around for the whole evening, some of them staring and commenting or abusing at young girls. And mind you, abusing is totally cool in UP-Delhi-Haryana belt.

I found out from a friend's update what Chetan Bhagat had stated in TOI- A recent survey by Nielsen revealed that Indian women are the most(83%) stressed out in the world. Okay, 83%, but 'stressed out' is nowhere nearer to the actual word- "AFRAID". Welcome to the capital, welcome to modern India. Roam free, but at your own risk, folks.
